Dear Feminist Friend,
As you know, several phenomenal women are running for statewide offices this year, among them WI NOW PAC-endorsed candidates Kathleen Falk for Governor and Barbara Lawton for Lieutenant Governor. These strongly pro-choice candidates have been on the forefront of many issues that I know you care about, including improving access to quality, affordable healthcare, childcare and education, pay equity, LGBT civil rights, racial equality, protection of the environment, and many others.
To further our agenda, the WI NOW Equality Political Action Committee (PAC) has launched the Women's Vote Project, an ambitious campaign to contact 9,000 women by mail and by phone in the next six weeks. This effort will increase voter turnout in the primary. Increasing turnout is critical to the ultimate success of our candidates. This won't be easy, as primaries have historically low voter turnout. However, this is the first time in almost two decades that incumbent Tommy Thompson won't be on the ballot. This makes 2002 our BEST chance to elect our first-ever female governor, Kathleen Falk! And although Margaret Farrow recently became our first female Lieutenant Governor, she does not champion women's rights. Barbara Lawton, who proudly calls herself a feminist, is THE candidate to hold this key position in our state.
In order to accomplish our goals, WE NEED YOUR HELP. There are many administrative costs associated with this campaign that need to be covered, including volunteer coordination, telephone charges, copying, and postage. With your contribution, we can move democracy forward by turning out our voters in the primary on Tuesday, September 10. Don't miss this chance to be a part of this historic victory in Wisconsin this year!
